Yakinikutei Ao-Chan (焼肉亭 青ちゃん) – Level 2, Concorde Hotel

It was my dear cousin’s birthday. I promised her a nice birthday treat. Last year, we had a mini feast over at Tampopo. This year, it’s still “Japanese Theme”. This time round, I brought her to one of my favourites yakiniku restaurant.
Yakinikutei Ao Chan has been around for at least 13 years. Ao-Chan, situated at a corner of Concorde Hotel (formerly known as Hotel Meridien Hotel & Shopping Centre). For the past 13 years, Ao-Chan has served their yakiniku to mainly Japanese expatriates and some locals. It’s pretty hard to get a table here without a reservation. You might be able to get one if you are lucky though. But, do make your reservations in advance.
Ao-Chan doesn’t boast a modernized interior ambience but I kind of like their dated yet clean furnishings.
Just like its name, Yakinikutei Ao Chan serves grilled meat dishes. Their menu is pretty extensive. It provides delicious grilled meat dishes which you need to broil on the grill by yourself. Just like Gyu-Kaku, if you don’t know how to do it, you can ask the friendly Ao Chan’s Staff.
List of some Ao-Chan’s Beef Cuts;

We ordered the following for sharing;
- Non Beef Course – SGD 36
- Wagyu Beef (Japan) – SGD38
- Wagyu Kobe Beef Steak Cut (Australia) – SGD 36
- Free Flow of Cold/Hot O-Cha.
Non Beef Course
Chicken, Pork Deer, Lamb, Squid, Prawn, Scallop,
Vegetable Salad, Kimchi, Rice, Seaweed Soup and Ice Cream;
Vegetable Salad;

Kimchi;

Non-Beef Platter;

Their seafood was pretty good. Fresh and Juicy!
I enjoyed majority of the non beef course, except Lamb (In the first place, I’m not that a huge fan of lamb).

Wagyu Beef (From Japan) – SGD 38

Wagyu Kobe Beef Steak Cut (From Australia) – SGD 36

I had their raw beef sashimi served with raw egg-yolk the other time. W introduced them to me and I was highly skeptical about the taste of it. But oh my god, it was good. Try it! The taste is pretty amazing!
And Of course, their signature dish goes to their Beef. You can have your beef done in two ways – Shio (Salt/塩)or Ao Chan’s sauce. We enjoyed both of it.

Their beef really speaks for itself and will have you craving for more. おいしい (O-i-shi-i)!. Their Wagyu beef was tasty and yummy. The portions might be considered small to some but it was definitely enough for two of us

It’s my second time here and I foresee more in the future. I’m glad the birthday girl enjoyed her treat.

That’s a pretty good deal! Does the Japan Wagyu beef come with a course?
It was not too bad
But the guys might think otherwise. Nope, The Japan Wagyu Beef comes solely only with that few slices of beef which definitely is more expensive.
Ah! That reminds me that they do have a Prime Beef Course at (SGD44.50) which includes the following;
Baby Tender Prime, Rose Prime, Belly with Rib, Tongue Prime, OX Triple Prime, Liver
and the usual Vegetable Salad, Kimchi, Shiso Rice, OX Tail Soup and Ice Cream. We didn’t chosee that as we ain’t fans of OX and Liver so it was better for us to take ala carte and choose the Non Beef Course.
Hope that helps!
Thanks for the info! You have photographic memory!
